About Frederic Leighton

Sir Frederic Leighton (1st Baron Leighton) was a British painter, draughtsman, and sculptor working in the academic style. A member then director of the Royal Academy, he was the first English painter to receive the title of baron. Having never married, his passing a day later put an end to the hereditary title. As such, he is considered the bearer of the shortest-lived peerage in history.
