After the Letter

The young you
addressing
the young me.

The promise of laughter,
the promise of light,
made good.

The memories,
the years,
the now.

As always,
after the letter,
it is 2 a.m.

As always,
after the words,
it still feels new.

This poem is my response to the Writer’s Digest 2025 April PAD Challenge: Day 5: write an After Blank poem.

I also used a prompt from Poetry Orchard - “There will be laughter / light” (#escapril).
